Project Description

Perched on the steep foreshore of Howe Sound, this multi-generational retreat is a profound response to a site cherished by one family for four decades. The design navigates a dramatic fifty-foot drop through a sequence of sculpted terraces, roof decks, and lush gardens that descend toward the Salish Sea. To accommodate large family gatherings, the home is organized with a loose generational distinction across three levels, featuring co-planar roofs that allow natural light to penetrate deep into the living spaces. Drawing from institutional-grade durability, the materials are selected to weather the West Coast marine climate and develop a rich patina over time. Integrated rain-capture cisterns sustain the surrounding ornamental and vegetable gardens, creating a resilient, “neighbourly” landmark that honours both the local ecosystem and the family’s deep roots in the Hood Point community.
