Newton Field House
A Buckyball-inspired field house surrounded by soccer pitches in Surrey, its single curving concrete-masonry wall supports skylights for raked natural light.
Project Description
Inspired by Buckminster Fuller’s Buckyball, the Newton Field House serves as a structural landmark within Surrey’s largest soccer park. Much like the stitched geometry of a soccer ball, the building employs a compelling material logic, using concrete masonry units to form a single, continuous curving wall. Inside, skylights provide raked natural light. Public Architecture designed the facility with a high-performance passive strategy; the mechanical room is the only heated space, efficiently centralizing all plumbing and irrigation infrastructure. The result is a robust, thoughtfully engineered pavilion that translates the geometry of the sport into enduring civic architecture.
