Strategically located within the Engineering precinct at UBC’s Point Grey campus, this 70-stall secure shelter deftly integrates brand identity with high-performance materiality. The design utilizes a transparent metal screen to prioritize safety through visibility, offering a continuous view of a back-wall mural inspired by the iconic School of Engineering red jackets and 20th-century Dynamism. This “eye-catching” aesthetic serves a dual purpose: enhancing security via passive surveillance and elevating the profile of sustainable transportation. Equipped with comprehensive end-of-trip facilities—including lockers, a repair station, and charging outlets for power-assisted bicycles—the shelter transforms a utilitarian requirement into a vibrant public realm piece. It encourages a low-carbon commute while celebrating the unique cultural spirit of the engineering community.
